SIRIUS XM Internship X-Perience - Aleesa

Interested in interning for The Black Eagle? We are recruiting for the Spring internship session. Apply TODAY!

Halfway There with Public Relations intern Tiffany

Interning at SIRIUS XM is quite fun, and it can make you forget that you are in a corporate headquarters. Maybe it’s the fact that Queen Latifah just walked past my desk or when you take off half the day just to take photos of Weezer. I attend the staff meetings and I have learned so much more about press than I knew before.

I have learned how stressful and time-oriented press is. Many of the people are here until about 10:30 on some nights, so you really have to love your job. However I wouldn’t trade being a public relations intern for anything.

Halfway There with Interactive Marketing intern Anthony

It’s been a good first half of the internship. I have had a lot of fun and it’s a great environment to be in. I am learning a lot about the details of putting the content on the SIRIUS XM website(s). It’s been a learning process, but I feel I am getting the hang of it. I have been learning about CMS and webstage, the programs that they use to add content on the site. I have been learning how to use these “keys” to the website and it’s very rewarding. I like working with the editors and picking their brains whenever I have a question. I like to review video and see what parts should go up on the YouTube and Facebook sites, the interviews are interesting and I like having a say in what people will want to hear from that particular artist. I’ve also done some projects where I used Photoshop, which I like to use, so those projects have been fun. I like learning and gaining more experience with programs like Photoshop, and this internship has given me that opportunity.

Halfway There with Music Programming intern Eduardo

My internship at SIRIUS XM has been extraordinary so far. I have learned new programs, made friends, and have learned how music is transmitted, not only by assisting the programmers, but by also attending the “Snack and Learn” meetings which are very informative, and give interns insight into other departments here at SIRIUS XM.

I also help out with a live radio show that is live on Sundays from 4-6pm on the Grateful Dead Channel, which is great. I am in charge of answering and screening all the calls that come into the show. Over the next six weeks, I am looking forward to learning the consoles here at SIRIUS XM and getting involved in the Production department as well. I will also be helping out on the Caliente channel starting next week.

In the time that I have been here there has not been a day where I have not learned something new. Every day is a learning experience and I hope that my next journal entry will give you an insight into more of the live shows and different channels I will be doing. I look forward to all the challenges I will be given, and hope that the coordinators and managers are happy with my work.

All I can say is that my internship so far has been nothing but the best.

Halfway There with Dance & Pop Programming intern Nicole

When I began my internship here at SIRIUS XM Radio, I described it as refreshing. Fortunately, I still maintain that the environment is uplifting. After ingesting and activating mixes daily, I finally feel that I understand the Dalet audio database and the TeamNews software program. In addition, I have become more skilled in the Powergold program, which I use to complete projects for the Pop and Dance stations. I have been assigned to numerous projects and assignments, which demonstrates my mentors’ faith in my ultimate performance. Because of this open and healthy relationship, I enjoy each day I work as an intern and have simultaneously built up more confidence in completing challenging tasks.

Halfway There with Music Programming intern Julia

So far I've learned a lot of interesting things about the music programming part of SIRIUS XM radio. It's a lot of hard work that takes serious dedication and I appreciate being here. I'm learning all that I can to help me in the future. I've learned how to load logs, voice track, audio editing, voice breaks, and guest hosting. I haven't fully got Music Master down, but before I leave I will!

So far I've only seen Oprah and Queen Latifah. But meeting all these really nice coordinators have been my highlight so far. I'm not too big on all those big stars (maybe just Zac Efron or Taylor Lautner!) but it's cool to see them around the office.

For the remainder of the internship I hope to start editing more interviews! I've done editing a few times and I really enjoy it. I get some type of weird thrill knowing that I'm cleaning up the coughs, the background voices, the long pauses, it's fun! Well for me it is. This is my first internship and I really like it! I feel like I'm a part of the team when I come into work. Thank you all so much!

Halfway There with Sports Programming intern Shane

I knew this was going to be a fun experience when my job was to watch a Yankee game and cut highlights. I would be doing half of that even if I wasn't here! Since then it's been great experience after great experience. I've cut interviews with some of my favorite players, watched games, and even learned a little bit about NASCAR, all while learning about the radio industry. I can see the end of the semester coming up and although I love this internship, I'm not going to be sorry to see an insanely busy semester come to an end; 14 hour days get tiresome after a while. But overall it's been great so far and I look forward to expanding my experience over the next month and a half.

Halfway There with Cousin Brucie intern Anthony

A lot of awesome stuff has been happening recently. I have increased my efficiency with MusicMaster and Prophet and I have mastered many of my tasks, also learning many new ones. I feel a lot more comfortable with the environment and with my different roles on Cousin Brucie's show. If I do make a mistake, my mentor helps me correct it and teaches me the right way to do things. The studio control board is something I want to master and I've had extensive practice with it recently getting more and more comfortable with it. I have found out that I learn better by just doing, so my extended time with the control board under my mentor’s tutelage was very beneficial. One of the coolest things to happen was when I recorded a show with Frank Sinatra's granddaughter, AJ Lambert. It was awesome to meet her and it also showed me the difference between my usual live show with Brucie and a pre-recorded show. I just like the atmosphere here and how everyone is so friendly, so I hope to encounter more great things. I don't know what will happen here in the future, but that is the fun part.
